Rowan’s breathing had finally evened out, and her eyes drooped closed, but she couldn’t bring herself to move away from Gwydion. That might have been a magically enhanced encounter, but sex had never been so good. Her entire body hummed with the aftermath of the best lay of her life. Since he didn’t seem to be in a hurry to move, she snuggled closer. She was under no illusions that this was anything more than a onetime thing, but she planned to milk every last bit of pleasure from the experience—including the post-coital cuddle.

She supposed she should be grateful to that little suicidal fox. She smiled against Gwydion’s shoulder. He must have felt it because he raised his head and looked at her questioningly.

As he opened his mouth, the heavy sound of a fist hitting her screen door pulled her from underneath him. Hurrying, she righted her bra and scooped up her shirt from the floor, shoving her arms into the wrinkled mess while she scanned the room looking for her underwear.

Locating them, she quickly yanked them on and shimmied into her jeans. She caught a quick glance at her reflection as she left the room. She looked as if she’d been fucked and fucked hard. Hopefully, it wasn’t anyone she knew at the door.

Tugging up the zipper on her jeans, she opened her bedroom door and tried to smooth down her tangled mass of hair as she made her way through the kitchen to the backdoor. She heard Gwydion moving around in her room, getting dressed, she supposed. She stopped dead as she caught sight of a guy waiting on her doorstep. Her brother—wearing his Spencer Construction hat. This was clearly a business-related visit.

She opened the door and let him in as Gwydion entered the room behind her. Her brother’s eyes narrowed on the guy who’d clearly just banged his little sister. Pretending obliviousness, Rowan forced a smile and turned to her brother.

“Reece, this is Gwydion. He’s a friend…from school,” she lied. “Gwydion, this is my brother, Reece.”

Reece scowled. “And I suppose you two were studying?”

Rowan’s eyes widened, and her mouth dropped open.

Gwydion leveled a glare at the other man. “What your sister and I were doing is none of your concern.”

Before this turned into a full-fledged pissing match, Rowan faced her brother. “What’s up?” she asked brightly.

He glanced at Gwydion before looking at her again. “I came to make sure you weren’t going to do anything that would affect the inspection.”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“C’mon, Ro. You know what I mean. I know you think you’re trying to save the earth and all that bullshit, but you’re not going to win this one.”

The familiar frustration of dealing with her family began to build. “You don’t know that. They might find an oil deposit back there. Or something…”

Reece rolled his eyes. “And you’d be happy with an oil well back there?”

“Better than acres of McMansions.”

“Whatever,” he snarled as he stormed out of the house.

Gwydion pulled her into his arms, and for a moment, she let the comfort seep into her bones.
